Chickens Are The Craziest Neighbors
You will never understand what I mean when I say chickens are crazy neighbors until you happen to have them as your neighbors so let me explain. I never thought I would be writing about chickens but it all happened one day when the chickens invaded my garden and scratch up all my beautiful, newly planted flower. As I approached my garden, the chickens scattered in all different directions. They move so fast and make their cackling sounds that I couldn't do what I really wanted to do to them. In fact, I was so furious that I was powerless. They left dirt all over the walkway and killed my beautiful flowers.
I was angry with my neighbor and yelled at her at first. Then, I realized that I was angry with my neighbor, who I liked, and I had myself in a tizzy that made me feel terrible. I quickly concluded that I liked my neighbor too much to fight over her chickens and I found ways around the chickens.
The first thing I did was to put stones around the edges of my flowerbeds. Next, I started to write about them with the idea of future storytelling stories. So for the storytelling idea I gave each chicken a human quality with an individual trait. Their traits developed around a beauty pageant. I realized how chickens were unique. They had Mohawks with plumes of many colors. There were the silkie hens; the bandy roosters and it went on until I had so many different chickens. I started to love chickens. My beauty pageant tells how the chickens have a beauty pageant and the most original, not the most beautiful chickens wins.
In the end, the focus of this book is to enrich children storytelling as I make lots of connections to children like beauty comes from the individual. Beauty is creative storytelling; it is not what you have at birth. Everyone needs to help each other. Never be unkind and laugh at someone when they fall down. You can be a participant; you don't have to be the center of attention. Appreciate what you have to offer the world through the art of storytelling through storytelling with children

Children love chickens and all their weird behaviors. In the end, I found I also liked chickens and even more I appreciate my neighbor for opening my door to the world of chickens. I now have one storytelling book, 'The Fairfield's Farm Beauty Pageant' and I have another book, 'Fairfield Farm's Talent Show', coming our way soon through the national storytelling network and the national storytelling association
